Alicia McCarthy’s paintings transform wood surfaces into bursts, geometric blocks of color and woven patterns. She often reuses found materials and makes her marks with acrylic, prisma color and spray paint. Infused with punk ethos, each wavering line speaks to her own humanity and that of the world. McCarthy received a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 1994 and an MFA from the University of California at Berkeley in 2007. McCarthy received the 2013 Artadia Award for San Francisco and was a resident at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She is represented by the Jack Hanley Gallery in New York and Pt.2 Gallery in Oakland, CA.
